RISE OF BABY MAMAS

Baby mama!! Baby mama!! Baby mama!!
This seems to be a rising trend in our society today from musical artists, actors, soccer stars, comedians etc. Virtually almost everybody from all works  of life has a baby mama. So how did we arrive at this situation; Back in the day the news of a young lady getting pregnant through premarital sex provoked a certain kind of reaction of distaste, back then no one needed to tell you that getting pregnant or impregnating someone before marriage was simply unacceptable/taboo, the societal stigma ensured you kept your legs together and your pants zipped up.

Change is said to be a constant thing in life, but certain changes are worrying. These days however we seem to have done a complete U-turn. More and more celebrities and people who society looks up to are having babies out of wedlock as far as am concerned and the annoying part of it all is how the media celebrates it. Now more and more women talk excitedly about just "having his baby" why not "being his wife". The liberalisation of sex in the society today  even among minors is sadly becoming a normal thing, now when it's said that a neighbours stubborn teenage daughter is pregnant, people hardly raise an eyebrow. At most they sigh and you hear things like "they are just children" "Na pikin leave am o" and they go on with whatever they were doing as if nothing ever happened, totally unconcerned.

So how did we arrive here?
Most people argue that its a general break down of morals about how young people are being corrupted these days and are losing their values, others have indicted parents for not carrying out their responsibilities of raising their children with right morals. Others  have blamed it on peer pressure, globalisation and how the practices of the west are negatively influencing our own way of life.
With all the accusations and counter accusations from all sides of the divide, the answer to the question is a combination of all these factors. We ought to stop playing this blame game and more emphasis on what should be more important, The Family. The home must be stressed has a great influence on the child's upbringing be it psychological, emotional, social and economic state. This is because the family background and presence of co-parental influence affects the child's reaction to life situations generally and indeed their level of performance.

There are lots and lots of research to this effect, children raised by single mothers have been shown to be twice likely to misbehave as those born into traditional two parent families. A study was carried out in the US on how the absence of a father could lead to early sexual activity and teenage pregnancy found that about one-third of girls whose father left the home before they turned six(6) ended up pregnant as teenagers, compared with just 5% of girls whose father were there throughout their childhood.

List of some celebrities with baby mamas/baby daddy:
* Antonio Cromartie reportedly has eight(8) baby mamas, including current wife Terricka Cromartie.
* Kate Winslet the Oscar winning actress has three children from three different fathers.
* Lil Wayne has four kids from four different women.
* Jack Nicholson the most nominated actor in the Oscars history is a notorious Hollywood playboy with four kids from three different women.
* Tuface/2baba is unarguably the notorious of them all in Nigeria
* Flavour has two kids with two different women both being beauty queens.
The list is endless, we could go on and on as this is worrisome as more young people influenced by the activities of their favourite celebrities begin to adopt this thinking and act on it, we are gradually evolve a society that is heading for some kind of self destruction. So there is an urgent need for us to focus on rebuilding the family as the most important unit of our human existence.
