Selfie Madness

SELFIE!! SELFIE!! SELFIE!! SELFIE!!SELFIE!!!!!
As defined via Wikipedia is a self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a digital camera or camera phone held in the hand or supported by a Slefie stick. Slefies are often shared on social networking platforms or services such as Facebook,Twitter,Instagram and the likes.
A brief history of the term selfie, The first known selfie was said to be taken by Robert Cornelius who was born on the 1st of March 1809 in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania and died on the 10th of August 1893(aged 84) in Frankford,Philadelphia,Pennsylvania in the United States. He was an American Pioneer of photography and lamp manufacturer.
Now we all have a rather brief background of the term selfie lets return to the issue at hand (Self-Madness). One question that goes through my mind is why all the craze for the term Selfie??
In 2015 alone it was reported that more people had been killed taking Selfies that year than by Shark attacks, either by losing their balance in a precarious position and others have been wounded, this is an alarming stats.
In April 2014 a 17-year-old Russian photographer climbed on top a railway bridge in Saint Petersburg to take a Selfie. She lost her balance and fell to her death.
May 2014 as well in the United States, a pilot of a Cessna 150k and his passenger were killed when the pilot was distracted taking Selfie and lost control of the plane.
January 2015 three Indian students aged 20-22 died trying to take a "Daredevil Selfie" close to an oncoming train.
Also in the month of May 2015 it was reported that an 18-year-old Romanian teenager died when she attempted to take the "Ultimate Selfie" posing with a friend on top of a train in the North-eastern Romanian city of Laşi when Her leg touched a live wire above, sending an electrical surge of up to 27,000 volts through her body. A 17-year-old friend who accompanied her was hospitalized.
January 2016 a 19-year-old student fell from the top of a 20-story apartment building in Manila,Philippines while taking a selfie. According to her classmate, "She was not satisfied with the photos they had taken so she decided to climb up the parapet well".
They're are lots and lots of cases both documented and undocumented of people losing their lives and sustaining fatal injuries. This is not to discourage people from taking Selfies or drive fear through the minds of people but rather to serve as a note of caution and advice to the readers of this article all over the world to please be cognizant(conscious) of your surroundings/environment before trying to take that "Ultimate Selfie". You all be SAFE!!!
